The OPTIMAI Project attended the Digital Manufacturing Industrial Summit (DMIS) on April 25th-27th 2023.
DMIS took place in Valencia, Spain at Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). The event was organised by UPV, Information Catalyst and Uninova, while it was promoted by Zero Defects Manufacturing Platform (ZDMP), the European Commission’s European Health and Digital Executive Agency and European Factories of the Future Research Association (EFFRA)
The event was also supported by a range of EU projects including OPTIMAI.
The aim of DMIS was to connect industry, manufacturers, technology developers, academics, researchers, and policy makers in a unique, cross-cutting discussion, co-operation, and networking forum, with presentations and exhibits from research and industry.
Each day of the event there was three keynote speeches in the morning, followed by a variety of sessions in the afternoon. Over the course of the three days, several OPTIMAI partners spoke at the sessions.
Day 1 saw Cinzia Rubattino from Engineering Ingegneria Informatica give a presentation on ‘Optimising Manufacturing Competitiveness Through an Intelligent Marketplace’ as part of the ‘Digital Platforms, Marketplaces, and Models for I4.0 and Beyond’ session.
In parallel, Manfredi Pistone from Engineering Ingegneria Informatica gave a presentation on ‘On-the-edge processing for acquisition and actuation’ as part of the ‘Data Quality in Manufacturing’ session.
While Christina Tsita from Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) presented ‘Soft Sensors as a Decision Support Tool for Minimizing Defects’ as part of the ‘Process Optimisation: Solutions for Manufacturers’ session this afternoon.
On day two, Andreas Böttinger from Eye Vision Technology (EVT) delivered a highly interesting presentation on ‘The value of standardization for fast time to market industrial solutions’ as part of the ‘Large-Scale High-precision manufacturing and Standardisation’ session.
In the evening, the OPTIMAI team embarked on a sightseeing tour, followed by a social dinner with other EU project members who were supporting the DMIS event.
On the third and final day, Christina Tsita from CERTH presented ‘Deep Reinforcement Learning for Optimal Configuration’ as part of the ‘AI for the Lifecycle of Manufacturing Systems’ session. This session was moderated by Stefanos Vrochidis from CERTH.
Four OPTIMAI partners took part in one of the final sessions of the event, ‘Ethics and Equality Aspects in Manufacturing’.
Emma Teodoro from Institute of Law and Technology (IDT-UAB) presented ‘Understanding human-centricity from a legal and ethical perspective’
Andrea Guillén from Institute of Law and Technology (IDT-UAB) presented ‘Ethical challenges of human-centricity in manufacturing’
Christopher Fischer from Trilateral Research presented ‘Methods to guarantee human-centricity of AI systems’
The session was moderated by Linda Henriksson from Carr Communications.
The conference also gave a chance for 4ZDM cluster sister projects including OPTIMAI and i4Q Project to get together to share ideas and discuss the next joint efforts.
