On Friday, 11 February 2022, the OPTIMAI consortium celebrated the 7th International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
The United Nations declares this day as significant as a glaring gender gap persists at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines worldwide. While the participation of women and girls in higher education has vastly increased, they are still under-represented in these fields.
To mark the day, the consortium participated in a #WomenInScience social media campaign. This featured the women of Team OPTIMAI answering the question: Why does the International Day of Women and Girls in Science matter?
Accompanying their resonant responses were photos of the female team members at work, giving followers of the project a lens into their daily lives as workers in STEM. The images from the campaign are available to view as a slideshow video below, and on our YouTube page.
